Path of the Churches of Chiloé

Objective:

• The ultimate goal of the Route of the Church is able to spread the real value of the churches as a manifestation of the living culture of Chiloé. Churches in many cases are still used in the same way that 100 or 200 years ago, so it is essential to maintain this tradition with the necessary care to keep the identity that has persisted for so long. The idea is to promote tourism to generate direct and indirect mechanisms for the maintenance of temples, its restoration and community development.

General background:

• The idea of organizing a heritage route reflects a longstanding wish of the Bishop of Ancud that through the Foundation of Friends of the Churches of Chiloé (FAICH) wants to encourage tourism development around the church property in order to benefit and develop the surrounding communities.
It began in November 2009 as a way to allow tourists visiting Chiloe better knowledge and understanding of what really are the churches. Normally visitors visited the churches closer to the cities and settle for taking pictures from outside, because in the week most of the temples are closed. With the Route of the Churches, we can guarantee to have a number of churches open guides economic field. This can teach the value of assets, their construction techniques, the use of wood, Minga, etc.
